Purpose and Scope

The purpose of this standard is to classify and determine the physical, chemical, intrinsic and pro-duction characteristics of the recycled materials used as aggregates and which are produced from concrete, hot mix asphalt and brick (concrete or clay) residues coming from dry material reserves or construction or demolition sites.

The recycled materials covered by this standard may or may not be composed in part of granular materials coming from quarries, gravel pits, sand pits or existing infrastructures.

This standard does not cover materials produced from slag, furnace clinker, cinders, mine tailings or any other industrial residue.

The recycled materials described in this standard are usually used as such for the construction of road infrastructures, landfill or any application which does not involve the use of recycled materials in the production of finished products such as concrete and hot mix asphalt.

                  NOTES —

  • Recycled materials may be used as aggregates for the production of finished products such as concrete and hot mix asphalts. When recycled materials are used for this purpose, specific technical requirements exist which are not covered by this standard.
  • Information concerning the use of recycled materials is given, for information purposes, in Annex C.
  • It is recommended not to put recycled materials containing concrete residues directly in contact with metallic elements.
