Standards in Action: Building a Climate-Resilient Future

SCC is reaching out to Canadians to help set a new course for standardization related to climate change and environmental sustainability. The long-term safety and resilience of our communities will depend on the decisions we make over the coming months and years, so we want to make certain we are acting based on the needs, priorities and expectations of Canadians.

With aging infrastructure and the impacts of extreme weather, governments and businesses need to make critical investments in infrastructure. As they do so, they have important choices to make to ensure they make the most of those investments.

Since 2016, through our federally funded Standards to Support Resilience in Infrastructure Program, SCC has been leading the development of standards and guidance to help businesses and communities respond to the impacts of climate change. The current program will sunset in March 2021, but there is much more to do. To shape the next iteration of our work, we are now reaching out across Canada to gather input on your priorities, to shape the future of the program.

To help SCC map out the next phase of its climate-related standardization efforts, we have created an online consultation platform. Through it, we will collect input from Canadians on where to focus future standardization efforts relating to climate change and environmental sustainability.
