SCC Launches a New Accreditation Program for Reference Material Producers in Canada

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) are now accepting applications for their new accreditation program for reference material producers. The program is based on ISO 17034 – General requirements for the competence of reference material producers.

Reference materials are used to calibrate and validate test methods and equipment, assess product and process quality, support research and development, and comply with regulatory and standards requirements.

Reference material producers play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results. They also support research and development in a plethora of fields, from environmental monitoring to pharmaceuticals to biotechnology.

The Standards Council of Canada is excited to launch its reference material producers program, which is its 11th accreditation program! In a world where quality control, product safety and environmental monitoring are emphasized more and more, the global reference materials market is bound to grow. Our new accreditation program will help address the demand and ensure that the reference materials we use meet the highest standards so that we can continue relying on them with the utmost confidence.”

  - Elias Rafoul, vice-president, Accreditation Services

SCC’s new accreditation program will allow BNQ to provide assessment services to Quebec reference material producers who want to be accredited to ISO 17034. This new program complements existing options for medical laboratories, testing laboratories and proficiency testing providers covered by ISO 15089, ISO/IEC 17025, and ISO/IEC 17043. Reference material providers can now benefit from assessments undertaken by BNQ’s francophone experts, all while taking steps towards an internationally recognized designation.”

- Isabelle Landry, principal director, Bureau de normalisation du Québec

Thanks to BNQ’s cooperation agreement with SCC, Quebec-based organizations can obtain this new accreditation by contacting their BNQ program manager or visiting the BNQ website.
SCC-accredited organizations interested in this new accreditation can contact their SCC account manager. Non-accredited organizations need to request an application kit at accreditation@scc.ca
