SCC launches Indo-Pacific standardization activities with Mongolia agreement

As part of the federal government’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to announce that it is playing a key role in implementing Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and receiving 2.5 million to undertake activities that will enhance trade, investment, and supply chain resilience in the region.

The Indo-Pacific is the fastest growing region in the world and home to six of Canada’s top thirteen   trading partners. It will play an important role in growing Canada’s economy by expanding market access and providing significant opportunities for Canadian businesses.

As Canada’s national standards body and leading accreditation body, SCC is proud to be part of this new strategy as standards and conformity assessment help reduce trade barriers and contribute to the trustworthiness and confidence of the international trading system.

These activities will strengthen Canada’s network of national and regional standards and accreditation bodies in the Indo-Pacific with the use and uptake of internationally recognized standards, conformity assessment procedures and best practices. SCC will also deepen its participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance, working with regional partners to advance regional standardization priorities and approaches.

One such partner is Mongolia. SCC and the Mongolian Agency for Standardization and Metrology (MASM) signed a cooperation agreement on November 20, as Canada and Mongolia celebrate their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. This agreement is the basis for a strong relationship of collaboration in international standards development at ISO while facilitating information-sharing in areas of mutual interest, including mining, Northern infrastructure, and climate change and sustainability.
