SCC congratulates new chair of the Standards Development Organizations Advisory Committee
The Standards Council of Canada is delighted to announce that Mark Ramlochan is the new Chair of the Standards Development Organizations Advisory Committee (SDOAC).
Mark is a Senior Planning Manager at UL Standards & Engagement(link is external). For more than a decade, he has managed the development of public safety standards spanning various areas including building materials, life safety and security, cannabis, oil and gas, and wire and cable. Mark has overseen dozens of Canadian standards development and international mirror committees. In 2016, he won the SCC Young Leader Award.
Mark succeeds to Mary Cianchetti, President of Standards at CSA Group(link is external), who served two terms as SDOAC chair. During her six-year tenure, Mary played a key role in shaping SDOAC’s collaborative efforts and refresh of strategic priorities. She is also a member of SCC’s Governing Council.
“SCC thanks and commends Mary for her leadership in coordination of standards development activities and building system capacity so that our network is responsive to the emerging needs of all Canadians,” said Chantal Guay, CEO, Standards Council of Canada. “We are pleased to congratulate Mark on his successful nomination as SDOAC’s new chair, and incoming member of SCC’s Governing Council. His wealth of experience in standards development, drafting policy and ability to bring people together through diplomacy is a vital asset for the committee.”
“I am honored to be appointed as Chair of the Standards Development Organizations Advisory Committee,” said Mark Ramlochan. “I am excited to work toward a safer world through greater collaborative standards development efforts alongside some of the world’s leading minds.”
The Standards Development Organizations Advisory Committee explores standardization issues from the perspective of the SCC-accredited standards development organizations. It promotes cooperation and communications between SCC and the standards development organizations (SDOs). The committee's membership consists of leaders from each of the SCC-accredited SDOs.
SDOAC contributed significantly to the development of SCC’s National Standards Strategy. One of SDOAC’s newest Working Groups (WG) is focused on strengthening diversity, equity, inclusion and participation in the standards system (WG 6). Another, WG 7, is supporting advisory councils to the National Research Council of Canada in validating data for the modernization of National Model Building Codes.
