SCC Announces Governing Council Member Reappointments

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is delighted to announce that Brent Schacter and Tayt Winnitoy have accepted their nominations for a four-year term renewal on SCC’s Council from the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, P.C., M.P. As members of SCC’s Council, they review, approve and advise SCC on its strategic direction. Along with the other Council members, their work helps make life safer, healthier, more prosperous and sustainable for people, communities and businesses in Canada through standards and conformity assessment.  

Dr. Brent Schacter is a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine of the University of Manitoba and member of the Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology at CancerCare Manitoba. He has been a member of the Mirror Committee for ISO TC 276 and in that capacity participated in the writing group that created and published ISO 20387 – Biotechnology – Biobanking – General requirements for biobanking in August 2018. He is currently participating in the preparation of ISO/PDTR 22758 – Biotechnology – Biobanking – Implementation Guide for ISO 20387. As Chair of the QBRS Steering Committee for ISBER and ASCP BOC, he has spearheaded the development of the online Qualification in Biorepository Science (QBRS) Exam, which is a unique global qualification examination for biobank personnel.

Tayt Winnitoy is the Executive Vice President of Consumer Protection BC, a provincial regulator that is responsible for the licensing and oversight of eight business sectors, the regulation of certain consumer transactions and the enforcement of BC trade practice law. He is the senior leadership team member responsible for supporting and advising on all aspects of Consumer Protection BC’s mandate and works with provincial and national partner agencies to enhance consumer protection at all levels.
