IEC honours two experts representing Canada
The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is proud to congratulate two experts who received the 1906 Award from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The 1906 Award was created to commemorate the year that IEC was established. It recognizes the valuable work of technical experts in advancing IEC’s standardization work.
A total of 228 experts were nominated this year. Submissions were received from 66 technical committees (including the Joint Technical Committee ISO/IEC JTC 1), 4 conformity assessment systems and 26 national committees.
The two experts representing Canada are:
Howard Sedding, Expert of IEC technical committee (TC) 112 Evaluation and qualification of electrical insulating materials and systems
In recognition of his active and exemplary participation in two convenorship roles and as an expert in various working groups over many years. As project leader, Howard guided the work on the third edition of IEC/TC 61934, Electrical insulating materials and systems, through to publication in 2024.
Horia Popovici, Expert of IEC international special committee (CISPR) on radio interference
In recognition of his extensive and meticulous efforts to improve the CISPR 11 standard on radio frequency disturbance characteristics in industrial, scientific and medical equipment. Horia made significant contributions to clarifying the consideration of equipment with radio functionality and the topic of in situ measurements planned for the CISPR 37 project.
This year’s winners bring the total number of experts representing Canada honoured with the IEC 1906 Award to 102.
SCC congratulates this year’s recipients, and thanks all experts who volunteer their time on international standardization committees and systems. Participation allows experts to improve the health, safety and economic prosperity of people across Canada, while becoming global leaders in their own industries. SCC identifies opportunities for people in Canada to participate in more than 450 international committees.
