Collaborating to tackle Data Governance – Canada’s Roadmap to a safer and more secure digital infrastructure
Data is being generated, analyzed, and applied in every aspect of our lives – faster than ever before. The handling and management of data impacts everything from finance to healthcare, from education to recreation, and from manufacturing to retailing. We have a tremendous opportunity to leverage and use data better in our society to drive growth and keep Canadians safe.
SCC is marking the launch of the Canadian Data Governance Standardization Roadmap. The Roadmap tackles the challenging questions we face when we talk about standardization and data governance. It describes the current and desired Canadian standardization landscape and makes 35 recommendations to address gaps and explore new areas where standards and conformity assessment are needed.
Canada has the opportunity to take a leadership role in establishing clear and cohesive data governance standards that build a safer and more secure digital infrastructure founded on quality, trust, and ethics. SCC is facilitating this work by doing what we do best: helping to solve complex issues by convening experts and stakeholders together with the standardization network to collaborate and develop innovative, consensus-based solutions.”
— Chantal Guay, CEO of the Standards Council of Canada
SCC established the Canadian Data Governance Standardization Collaborative in 2019 to accelerate the development of industry-wide data governance standardization strategies. The Collaborative has spent the past two years working together to build a standardization Roadmap. The Canadian Data Governance Standardization Collaborative is a group of 220 Canadians across government, industry, civil society, Indigenous organizations, academia, and standards development organizations. Anil Arora, Chief Statistician of Canada, and Philip Dawson, Senior Policy Counsel, Responsible AI Institute, are co-chairs of the Steering Committee.
