Announcing our newest program that advances testing and certification for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology
SCC & OmniAir Consortium have collaborated to offer a V2X laboratory accreditation scheme that falls under SCC’s ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Accreditation Program. This scheme will be at the forefront of advancement in Canada’s transportation technologies.
V2X is a vehicular communication system that supports the transfer of information from a vehicle to roadside infrastructure, other vehicles and personal communications devices. The main purpose of V2X is to improve road safety and traffic efficiency.
In a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in early 2021, SCC pledged to collaborate with OmniAir Consortium on an accreditation program for test laboratories, and to build awareness of the benefits of this V2X scheme within the Canadian standardization community.
“We are delighted to contribute to the development and implementation of a new testing system designed to meet the rigorous safety requirements of SCC’s accreditation program. We look forward to leveraging standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 and our own accreditation methods to ensure that new transportation technologies meet the evolving demands of today’s global market.” – Elias Rafoul, Vice President of Accreditation Services
“OmniAir Consortium is honoured to enter into this historic agreement with ITS Canada and the Standards Council of Canada to further cooperation on Connected Vehicle testing and certification. This new partnership is consistent with OmniAir Consortium’s mission to advance interoperability and certification of life-saving V2X technologies around the world.” - Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium.
This initiative is also supported by Transport Canada's Program to Advance Connectivity and Automation in the Transportation System, a $10.5M, five-year initiative, to help Canadian jurisdictions prepare for the technical, regulatory and policy issues emerging as a result of connected and automated vehicles.
The V2X scheme encompasses vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-network communications. SCC is currently accepting applications from organizations seeking accreditation for the 17025 / V2X scheme.
