McMahon Dedicated Service Award

About the category 

Awarded to an SCC employee who has made notable contributions to standardization. The award is named in memory of Joseph Terrence McMahon. He was an esteemed SCC staff member who exhibited genuine concern and respect for others, a supportive nature and a vast knowledge of standardization.

Selection criteria 

  • achieved significant results as an SCC staff member to support the Standards Council of Canada Act for at least 5 years
  • demonstrated exemplary participation, leadership or technical assistance in the development, promotion or implementation of policies, standards or guides (through certification or accreditation programs)
  • other qualities: 
    • initiative in seeking results that meet SCC’s corporate objectives
    • customer focus within and outside of SCC 
    • timeliness in carrying out responsibilities
    • proven record of direction and long-term planning for the continued success of standardization nationally and internationally

Award submissions and selection process 

SCC’s online nomination form is available when applications are open. It will require:

  • curriculum vitae (for individual awards) or profile (for organizational or committee awards)
  • 2 to 3 letters of recommendation highlighting why the nominee should be selected for the award
  • examples of how the nominee demonstrates the qualities outlined for the specific award 

     

Our awards committee considers every nomination that is submitted and selects the winners based on a scoring system.


We encourage applications from women, visible minorities, youth and LGBTQ+ communities, and from anyone who is passionate about developing gender responsive standards. If you believe you have the skills to contribute and lead, send us your application.
