Electrical Systems for Internal Combustion Engines, for Use in Class I, Division 2 and Zone 2, Hazardous Locations.
This document contains the requirements for assessing electrical systems mounted to, and used in conjunction with industrial internal combustion engines intended for use in Zone 2 and Class I, Division 2 Hazardous Locations. It includes both the general safety aspects, and hazardous locations suitability of the engine electrical system, as well as the components and subassemblies that these systems are comprised of. This includes, but is not limited to: • Various sensors for temperature, pressure, speed, shaft position, force, torque, vibration, and measurement of chemical elements. • Various actuators for linear and rotary motion, solenoids, and valve positioners. • Various controllers and processors. • Various operator interface devices, displays, switches, and manual controls. • Various means of analog, digital, wireless, and optical communications with external systems and networking devices. • The interconnection of the system components, including wiring harnesses and the components of these harnesses. Note: These electrical systems may incorporate one or more interfaces with building wiring, or interfaces between these systems and external industrial measurement and control equipment. The requirements for these interfaces are addressed in the existing product safety standards, and are not included in the scope of this document.
