Update to the CSA B149.3 Inspection Label statement in the SCC Requirements and Guidance Document - IBAP

Action required

All Inspection Bodies (IBs) accredited to conduct inspections under CSA B149.3 shall update their inspection labels.

 

The Scope of Accreditation (SOA) shall be updated to reflect the latest applicable label design and content accordingly. 

 

Affected customers

All accredited and applicant IBs conducting inspections under CSA B149.3.

 

Background

The CSA B149.3:20 code has a new title: Code for the field approval of fuel-burning appliances and equipment. The code was also expanded to include different types of fuels that may be covered, which is reflected in the updated statement required for the inspection label.

 

As such, the SCC Requirements and Guidance for the Inspection Body Accreditation Program document was also updated to reflect this change.


New requirements

IBs accredited to carry out inspections in accordance with CSA B149.3 shall update their inspection labels to reflect the new statements in English and French, as indicated in the SCC Requirements and Guidance for the Inspection Body Accreditation Program under clause B. 7.4.6.2, in Annex B – Requirements and Guidance: Commercial and Industrial Fuel-burning Appliances.


New statement for inspection labels:  “Fuel-Burning safety evaluation based on Canadian code requirements” and “Évaluation de la sécurité de la combustion de carburant basée sur les exigences des codes canadiens”.

 

Previous  statement for inspection labels: “Gas safety evaluation based on Canadian code requirements” and “Évaluation de la sécurité gazière basée sur les exigences des codes canadiens”.


Deadline

All IBs accredited to CSA B149.3 shall update their inspection labels to reflect the new statement by July 1st, 2023, or when their current printed label stock is depleted, whichever comes first.
