Transition to the New Edition of CSA Z809 for Sustainable Forest Management

Action required

Effective immediately, organizations may transition from CAN/CSA-Z809-08 to CAN/CSA-Z809-16 without a gap in Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) endorsement. 

Affected customers

This change affects Management System Certification Bodies operating in the field of CSA Sustainable forest management accreditation program, their customers, as well as SCC assessors performing assessments in this area.

Background

This guidance has been provided to allow organizations to transition to CAN/CSA-Z809-16, while ensuring PEFC endorsement is maintained during the endorsement process of CAN/CSA-Z809-16. 

New requirements

Transition prior to endorsement of CAN/CSA-Z809-16  is possible, as long as, the Certification Body issues the new certificate to both CAN/CSA-Z809-08 and CAN/CSA-Z809-16, ensuring all requirements of both are covered. The certificate shall be replaced with a new one only listing CAN/CSA-Z809-16 once endorsement of the CSA program is complete.  The following note will be added to the certificates of all applicable certification bodies:

“CAN/CSA-Z809-16 meets the principles and/or requirements of CAN/CAS-Z809-08, which is endorsed by PEFC.”

Deadline

This change is effective immediately. Any certification issued to CAN/CSA Z809-08 shall not be valid as of September 17, 2018.
