Transition to ISO 14066:2023

Action required

Customers, applicants and assessors in the Validation and Verification Accreditation Program (VVBAP, formerly the Greenhouse Gas Accreditation Program) shall use ISO 14066: 2023 Environmental information Competence requirements for teams validating and verifying environmental information.

Background

The new version of the standard, ISO 14066: 2023 was released on August 31, 2023. All previous versions of the standard are now obsolete.
 

This document is applicable to all organizations that plan and conduct external or internal validations, verifications and agreed-upon procedures.
 

This standard specifies competence requirements for validation teams and verification teams for the benefit of greenhouse gas (GHG) programme administrators, regulators, validation bodies and verification bodies. The goal is to achieve consistency in the international marketplace and maintain public confidence in GHG reporting and other communications.

New requirements

ISO 14066:2023 integrates prior requirements with new competencies for GHG, green finance, product, and life cycle assessment.
Notably, it replaces the VVB definition with that of an independent reviewer, aligning their competencies with the team leader's. Annex modifications include reordering and introducing normative guidelines for green bond and GHG assessments.

Deadline

VVBAP customers shall be transitioned to ISO 14066:2023 during the next regular assessment or by August 31, 2025.

VVBAP applicants shall be assessed against the latest version of the standard effective immediately.
