SCC’s New Requirements and Guidance Documents – Reference Table

Action required

With the recent publication of SCC Requirements and Guidance for the Accreditation of Testing Laboratories, SCC has now concluded its initiative to replace the CAN-P documents with Requirements & Guidance (R&G) documents for the laboratory accreditation program. Stakeholders are asked to take note of the new documents. which are presented in the table below. The table presents a cross-walk between the old CAN-P documents and where the information is now located in the new series of R&G documents (or other applicable document). This table has been prepared as a reference to facilitate the transition to the new documents.

 

Affected customers

As new documents were published, affected customers were informed of the nature of the changes and implications for them. Assessors were also informed of the changes and training was carried out in order to ensure a seamless transition.

 

Our Partner organizations Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) and National Research Council – Calibration Laboratory Assessment Service (CLAS) are also affected by these changes.

 

Background

These changes were made as part of SCC’s overall QMS modernization project. Historically, the CAN-P documents included everything from handbooks to ISO/IEC standards to additional requirements. All documents have received a ‘face lift’ and are housed in the new Requirements and Guidance template as an initial step. Some have updated content and others still need to undergo more substantial review and consultation such as those addressing Forensic and Mineral Analysis testing laboratories.

 

Furthermore, with the anticipated release of ISO/IEC 17025 later this year and the transition period that follows, SCC will be performing reviews of each Requirements and Guidance document applicable to the laboratory accreditation program. Where these reviews result in the revision of an R&G document, SCC will consult with all stakeholders as per its Consultation of Interested Parties procedure.
