IAF MD 27:2023 Transition Requirements for ISO 22003-1:2022
Action required
Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) customers are required to transition their accreditation to ISO 22003-1:2022 Food safety — Part 1: Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of food safety management systems.
Accredited customers will need to provide their account managers with a transition submission including:
- Declaration of ownership of ISO 22003-1:2022 Food safety — Part 1: Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of food safety management systems.
- Completed SCC - ISO 22003-1:2022 criteria matrix (provided by SCC after declaration of ownership is completed by the customer).
- Transition plan addressing the following:
- Identify the changes between new and old version.
- Analyze impact of changes on relevant activities/processes and identify required actions to ensure conformance.
- Implement required actions.
- Records that relevant personnel affected by the changes are competent for the revised version and transition process.
- Communications with relevant stakeholders.
- Summary of changes to controlled documents.
- Proposed scope of accreditation.
Affected customers
All SCC-accredited FSMS certification bodies, applicants, assessors and other relevant interested parties.
Background
ISO 22003-1:2022 specifies the requirements for the audit and certification of a food safety management system (FSMS) complying with the requirements given in ISO 22000 (or other specified FSMS requirements).

Deadline
- SCC FSMS accredited customers shall submit their transition documentation no later than July 31st, 2024, and have their updated scopes published before December 31, 2024.
- All initial applications for relevant FSMS accreditation will be made to ISO 22003-1:2022 as of the publication of this bulletin.
