Bulletin date:
Bulletin number:
2017-07

Action required

Effective immediately, all laboratories operating in the Forensic Program Specialty Area must now refer to Requirements and Guidance for the Accreditation for Forensic Testing Laboratories and cease referring to CAN-P-1578 - Guidelines for the Accreditation of Forensic Testing Laboratories, Program Specialty Area - Forensic Testing Laboratories (PSA-FT) - May 2009.

Affected customers

This change affects accredited and applicant laboratories operating in the Forensic Program Specialty Area, as well as SCC assessors performing assessments in this area.

Background

This change was made as part of SCC’s overall QMS modernization project. The content of the requirements has not changed, only the formatting has been harmonized with SCC’s new branding, and the references have been updated.

However, in September 2017, SCC will begin an in-depth review and revision of these requirements. We will be forming a working group of interested stakeholders to perform this revision and draft the new document, after which it will be sent for consultation to all affected stakeholders.

If you are interested in taking part in this working group, please contact William O’Neill, Program Manager – Business Support and Development at woneill@scc-ccn.ca. If you wish to volunteer for the drafting working group of the revised Requirements and Guidance for Forensic Laboratories, please contact William O’Neill by Friday, August 18th, 2017.

New requirements

  • No changes have been made to the content of the requirements of the document, but the normative references have been updated.

Deadline

As there are no substantive changes to the content, this change is effective immediately. Customers are asked to update their documentation as soon as possible.
