Canadian Independent Safety Assessor Program for Railway Systems
Action required
Please take note of SCC’s new scheme under the Inspection Body Accreditation Program for Canadian Independent Safety Assessor program for Railway Systems.
Affected customers
All conformity assessment bodies who are interested in becoming accredited to the new scheme under the inspection body accreditation program.
Background
SCC, in collaboration with Metrolinx, has established a Canadian Independent Safety Assessor for Railway Systems Accreditation Program in line with global best practices in safety and system assurance. The program is based on a third-party independent inspection model where Independent Safety Assessors (ISAs), who have become accredited to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 by SCC, will undertake independent safety assessments of the risk evaluation and assessment to ensure all potential hazards are identified and mitigated. Accredited ISAs can play a vital role not only in assuring that safety has been integrated in each phase of the life cycle of a railway system, but also for ongoing changes of the railway network once in operation.
New requirements
In addition to ISO/IEC 17020:2012, SCC has developed a new Requirements and Guidance document with specific requirements designed for, and in collaboration with, the rail industry. The SCC Requirements and Guidance Document for Independent Safety Assessor for Railway Systems Accreditation Program is available on our website.
Deadline
SCC-accredited Inspection Bodies may apply for a scope extension for this new program at any time. Other interested organizations may request an application package for accreditation by contacting accreditation@scc-ccn.ca.
