Verification and Validation
We are the only internationally recognized accreditation body in Canada offering the Verification and Validation Accreditation Program, which is based on ISO/IEC 17029, ISO 14065 and ISO 14066, the international standards for providing validation and verification in areas including environmental information and greenhouse gases.
Organizations often turn to SCC-accredited bodies to validate or verify that information declared in claims is reliable and true. Reasons include procurement eligibility requirements, regulatory compliance and competitive differentiation.
The validation or verification process serves as a cornerstone for trust and reliability, and the effectiveness of this assurance hinges on the competence of those conducting the verification and validation.
Voluntary and mandatory programs that recognize or require SCC accreditation include:
- Alberta's technology innovation and emissions reduction regulation
- British Columbia's Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting Regulation
- British Columbia's Greenhouse Gas Emission Control Regulation
- Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA)
- Climate Action Reserve
- Environment and Climate Change Canada Output-Based Pricing System
- Environment and Climate Change Canada Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR)
- Environment and Climate Change Canada Offset Credit System
- Newfoundland and Labrador's Regulation 14/17
- Nova Scotia's Greenhouse Gas Emission Regulations
- Ontario's Regulation O. Reg. 390/18
- Quebec's Regulation Q-2, r.15 Reporting Regulation
- Quebec's Regulation Q-2, r.46.1 Cap & Trade Regulation
- The Climate Registry
- Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard
We are signatories to the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) for our Verification and Validation Accreditation Program. This means that validation and verification by SCC-accredited bodies is widely accepted internationally. Additionally, to uphold our signatory status, we undergo peer evaluations by the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC), further enhancing trust.
This SCC accreditation signals that an organization is qualified to verify and/or validate, ensuring that standards are applied correctly and consistently. We create a foundation of trust by ‘checking the checkers’ and making sure verification and validation bodies meet the requirements of national and international standards.
