
Steve Murphy
Steve Murphy is the Executive Director of Community and Technical Support with the Government of Alberta. With over 20 years of extensive public sector experience, he has held senior and executive roles with both the Governments of the Northwest Territories and Alberta.
In his current role, Steve oversees the strategic management of Alberta’s safety system, ensuring the health and safety of all Albertans. He leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing and adopting legislation, regulations, safety codes, and standards across ten safety disciplines. His team also provides expert analysis, policy development, and strategic advice at the provincial level.
Beyond his provincial leadership, Steve is a member of the Standards Council of Canada’s Governing Council and serves as Chair of the Council’s Provincial-Territorial Advisory Committee. He also represents Alberta on the Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes.
Steve holds a Business Administration Diploma from McMaster University and a Master of Business Administration in Global Leadership from the University of Fredericton. He also studied Computer Science at the University of Alberta.
