Ahmed Fathi Shalabi
Dr. Ahmed Fathi Shalabi is a retired professional engineer and civil servant with a broad range of leadership and management experiences in the integrity and effectiveness of materials, structures, components, systems, and organizations. He has contributed to national and international standards for the risk management of safety and security challenges. As a dynamic change agent, he is skilled at repositioning and delivering standards solutions for public policy, engineering, technology, research, and regulatory projects/programs.
His key roles have included: i)Researcher with New Brunswick Research Productivity Council, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (Pinawa and Chalk River), Natural Resources Canada (CANMET), SIEMENS-KWU(Erlangen, Germany), and Med-Eng Systems; ii) Regulator with the Atomic Energy Control Board and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission; iii) Policy Advisor with the Department of National Defence and Global Affairs Canada; and iv) Standards Developer with the SCC for ISO/IEC mirror committees, Canadian Standards Association, and International Atomic Energy Agency for nuclear and ICT emerging technologies.
He has volunteered with: Engineers Canada, Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance, Canadian Science and Policy Conference, Canadian Executive Service Organization, World Skills and International Talent Acquisition Centre, Ottawa Police Services, and Ottawa Centretown Community Association. Dr. Shalabi holds a: Diploma in Engineering from the University of Prince Edward Island, Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia(Dalhousie University), and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
